Psalm 56 is a song King David wrote when he was really scared. Instead of letting the fear win, he made a brave choice - and you can make the same one.
Today's Story
King David was far from home and feeling very afraid. People who didn't like him were all around, and his heart was pounding.
But David had learned a secret about being scared. Fear doesn't get the last word. So every time the scared feeling came, David said, “When I am afraid, I will trust in You.”
He said it again and again. Scared? Trust God. Scared again? Trust God again. He turned every single fear into a little prayer of trust. “I trust in God,” he sang. “What can people do to me when God is on my side?”
Then David said one of the most tender things in the whole Bible. He told God, “You keep track of all my sadness. You collect my tears in Your bottle.”
Imagine that! When you cry, God doesn't miss even one tear. He gathers them up and keeps them, like they're precious to Him - because you are precious to Him. He sees every sad and scary moment, and He cares about all of it.
By the end of the song, David wasn't scared anymore. He was thankful. He knew God was holding him close.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- What is something that makes you feel afraid? What would it look like to say David's words: “When I am afraid, I will trust in You”?
- God collects every tear you cry, because you are precious to Him. How does it feel to know God notices when you're sad?
- David turned every scared feeling into a little prayer. Can you think of a quick prayer to say the next time you feel afraid?
