Psalms 57 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

King David wrote Psalm 57 while he was hiding in a dark cave, with trouble chasing him outside. Listen to how his scared song turns into a happy one.

Today's Story

King David was hiding in a cave. It was dark and cold, and outside, trouble was looking for him. David had run out of places to go.

So right there in the cave, David started to pray. “Be kind to me, God,” he said. “Be kind to me. I am running to You to hide.”

Then David thought of something cozy. Have you ever seen a baby bird tuck under its mama's wing when a storm comes? Warm. Covered. Safe. David prayed, “I will hide in the shadow of Your wings until the trouble has passed by.”

And something wonderful happened. The danger outside hadn't gone anywhere yet - but David stopped shaking. He felt safe, all tucked in with God.

He felt so safe that he started to sing! “My heart is happy, God, my heart is happy. I will sing to You. Wake up, morning sun - I want to sing before you do!”

David went into that cave scared. He came out singing. That is what happens when you hide yourself in God.
