In Psalm 61, King David feels small and far away and tired. So he calls out to God and asks to be lifted up to a safe, high place.
Today's Story
King David felt very small and very far away. He was tired, and his heart felt low, like he was way out at the edge of everything.
So David called out to God. “Hear me, God! Listen to my prayer. From far, far away I am calling to You.”
Then David asked God for something special. Picture big waves rolling in at the beach, getting higher and higher. Where would you want to be? Up on a tall rock, high above the water, where the waves can't reach you!
That is exactly what David prayed: “Lead me to the rock that is higher than I am.” David couldn't climb up that high by himself. He needed God to lift him.
And God did. David remembered, “You have always kept me safe. You are like a strong, tall tower I can run to.” Up on God's high rock, the trouble couldn't touch him anymore.
“I want to stay close to You forever,” David sang. He had been low and far away - and God lifted him up high and held him close.

Talk About It
- Have you ever felt small or far away or worn out, like David? What was going on?
- David needed God to lift him up to the high rock because he couldn't climb there alone. When is a time you needed someone bigger to lift you up?
- David wanted to stay close to God forever. What is one way you like to stay close to God each day?
