Psalms 63 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

King David wrote Psalm 63 when he was out in a hot, dry desert. He missed God so much that it felt like being thirsty for a cool drink of water.

Today's Story

Have you ever been so thirsty that all you could think about was water? Your mouth feels dry, and you would give anything for one cool, splashy drink.

That is how King David felt about God. He was way out in a desert where the sand was hot and there was no water anywhere. And he prayed, “God, You are my God. I look for You with all my heart. I am thirsty for You, like dry ground is thirsty for rain.”

David could have grumbled about the heat. Instead, he started remembering all the good things about God. He remembered how strong God is. He remembered how God had helped him before.

Then David said the most wonderful thing. “Your love is better than life itself! So I will praise You. I will lift up my hands and thank You.”

At night, when it was dark and quiet, David would lie on his bed and think about God instead of feeling scared. He said, “You have always helped me. I stay close to You, and You hold me up with Your strong hand.”

Even in the dry, hard desert, David was happy - because he had God.
