Psalms 74 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Psalm 74 is a sad song God's people sang after something they loved was broken. Watch how, right in the middle of feeling sad, they remember how strong and great God is.

Today's Story

Have you ever had something you really loved get broken? It leaves a big, sad, achy feeling. That is how God's people felt in this song.

The special place where they went to worship God had been wrecked by enemies. The people were so sad. They felt forgotten. They prayed, “God, how long? Have You forgotten us?”

They poured out all their sadness to God. They didn't hide it. They told Him exactly how heavy their hearts felt.

But then - right in the middle of the sad song - they began to remember who God is. And remembering changed everything.

They said, “But God, You are our King! You are so strong. The day belongs to You, and the night belongs to You. You set the sun in the sky and made the moon. You made the wide, deep sea. You are powerful over all of it!”

So they asked God to remember them, the way He always had. The song was still sad - but now it was a sad song wrapped around a very big hope, because their God is the strong Maker of everything.
