Psalms 77 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Psalm 77 is a prayer for the hard nights - the kind where you lie awake and feel sad or scared. Asaph wrote it when he felt just like that.

Today's Story

Have you ever been awake in the night when you couldn't fall asleep? Maybe you felt sad. Maybe you felt scared. Maybe you wondered if anybody even noticed.

That is exactly how Asaph felt. He was awake in the dark, and his heart hurt. He cried out to God, but he didn't feel better right away. He even started wondering, “Has God forgotten about me? Doesn't He love me anymore?”

Those are big, sad questions. And it's okay to feel them.

But then Asaph did something very wise. He didn't wait to feel happy. He made a choice. He said, “I will remember. I will remember all the good things God has done.”

So he started remembering. He thought about the time long ago when God's people were stuck at a giant sea with no way across. And God pushed the water back and made a dry path right through the middle, so His people could walk to the other side, safe!

And as Asaph remembered, his heart got calmer. The God who helped before is the same God who is with him now. The God who is with you now.

Talk About It

  1. What do you think about when you can't fall asleep? Is it ever something sad or scary?
  2. Asaph felt better when he remembered the good things God did. What is one good thing God has done for you or your family?
  3. God split a whole sea so His people could be safe. What does that tell you about how much He loves and helps His people?
