For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up
Psalm 78 is a very long song where a grown-up sits the children down and tells them the whole story of how good God has been - so they never forget it.
Today's Story
Do you have a story your family loves to tell again and again? Maybe the day you were born, or a big adventure?
Asaph wrote a song like that - but it's the story of how amazing God is. He said, “Listen, children. I'm going to tell you the story. And you tell your children too, so nobody ever forgets.”
And what a story it is! God pushed back a whole sea so His people could walk across. He led them with a tall cloud in the day and a glowing fire at night. When they were thirsty, He made water pour out of a rock. When they were hungry, He sent special bread that fell from the sky like rain. Yummy bread, right from heaven!
But here is the sad part: the people kept forgetting. As soon as something got hard, they forgot all the amazing things God had done.
And here is the wonderful part: God did not give up on them. The song says God was “full of kindness.” He forgave them again and again. He remembered they were only people, and He loved them anyway.
At the very end, God picked a shepherd boy named David to take care of His people - a boy who had been out watching sheep. God loves a faithful shepherd.
