Psalm 83 is a prayer Asaph wrote when God's people felt scared and surrounded by enemies. It shows us exactly what to do when we are afraid.
Today's Story
God's people were in trouble.
Lots of unfriendly groups had teamed up against them. They were making secret plans and saying mean things. The people of God looked around and felt very small. There were so many of them, and so few of us.
So what did the people do? They did the very best thing. They prayed.
“O God, please do not stay quiet,” Asaph prayed. “We need You. Please help us.” The people did not try to fight all alone. They ran straight to the strongest One there is.
And then Asaph prayed something surprising. He did not just ask God to win. He asked God to do something so wonderful that even the enemies would learn the truth: “Let them know that You are the Most High over the whole earth.”
Asaph wanted everyone - friends and enemies - to find out how great and good God really is. Because God is bigger than any worry, and there is no one like Him anywhere.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- What is something that makes you feel scared or worried? It is okay to say it out loud.
- When the people were afraid, the first thing they did was pray. What helps you remember to talk to God when you feel small?
- Asaph wanted even the enemies to learn how great God is. Who do you wish could know how good God is?
