What Does Luke 21:10 Mean?
Jesus enlarges the picture from rumors of war to the whole map: nation against nation, kingdom against kingdom. The generation after he spoke saw revolts and wars across the Roman world, and every generation since has seen the pattern hold.
Conflict among nations is not evidence that God has lost the reins; Jesus names it in advance as part of the age between his resurrection and his return. His followers grieve war without being unmade by it, pray and labor for peace, and remember that the kingdoms of this world are not the kingdom whose nearness he promises later in this very chapter (Luke 21:31).
