What Does Luke 7:48 Mean?
Until now Jesus has spoken about the woman to Simon; now He turns and speaks to her — the first words in the scene addressed to her: "Thy sins are forgiven." What He declared over her to the table He now declares into her own ears.
Forgiveness becomes personal address. She came already trusting His mercy; she leaves having heard it spoken directly to her — assurance, not merely amnesty. The soul needs to hear from Christ what is true of it before Him. These words, carried by His own voice and authority, are the treasure of the whole scene: not a feeling she worked up, but a word He gave.
