What Does Luke 8:1 Mean?
Luke opens a new stage of the ministry. After the events at the house of Simon the Pharisee, Jesus sets out on a deliberate circuit, going through every city and village, preaching and announcing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God. The twelve travel with Him, learning His way by sharing His road.
The kingdom does not wait for people to come and find it; it goes out to them. Jesus carries the good news to small villages as readily as to cities, for no place is beneath His attention. Notice too that the twelve are simply with Him; before they are sent, they accompany. Discipleship begins in companionship, walking where Christ walks until His message becomes our own.
