What Does Luke 9:1 Mean?
Luke 8 closed with a storm stilled, a legion of demons expelled, a suffering woman healed, and a dead girl raised. The Twelve have been watching that power at close range. Now, before sending them out across Galilee, Jesus calls them together and places into their hands what no training could supply: power and authority over all devils and over disease.
Notice the order: he gives before he sends. The disciples do not work up strength for the task; they receive it from the One who has it. Whatever Christ calls his people to do, he first equips them to do. Ministry in his name is never self-funded; it draws on his fullness, and the supply is equal to everything the assignment will require.
