What Does Luke 9:2 Mean?
Having equipped the Twelve, Jesus now defines their errand. It mirrors his own work exactly: since Luke 4 he has been announcing the kingdom of God and healing all who came. The apprentices are sent to do what the Master does, carrying his message and his mercy into towns he has not yet reached.
Preaching and healing belong together. The kingdom is announced in words and demonstrated in restored bodies; truth for the ear, mercy for the flesh. Servants of Christ still carry both: a message to declare and compassion to enact. Where the reign of God arrives, broken things begin to mend, and the telling and the mending are one witness.
