Mark 13:31 Meaning and Explanation

Jesus closes the assurance with the most sweeping claim he has yet made. The prophets said the grass withers and the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever — and Jesus places his own words in exactly that position. Sky and earth are less durable than his sentences.

Only one voice can truthfully speak this way. Everything visible — mountains, empires, the heavens themselves — carries an expiration; what Jesus says does not. This is the rock beneath the whole discourse and beneath every Christian life: opinions shift, institutions fall, the ground itself will one day give way, but not one promise of Christ will fail. To build on his words is to build on the only thing that outlasts the world.
