What Does Mark 15:7 Mean?
Mark introduces the other prisoner. Barabbas is no petty offender; he lies bound with rebels and has killed in an insurrection, the very crime of violent revolt that Jesus is falsely accused of.
The contrast could hardly be sharper: a man guilty of the charge waits beside a man innocent of it. Barabbas means son of the father, and on this morning a guilty son of a father will walk free while the true Son of the Father takes a condemned man's cross.
