What Does Matthew 25:11 Mean?
The five come back from the sellers, perhaps with oil at last, but the procession is over and the house is closed. Their doubled cry — Lord, Lord — echoes the end of the Sermon on the Mount, where Jesus warns that saying Lord, Lord is not the same as doing the will of his Father (Matthew 7:21-23).
There is real sorrow here: they wanted in. But wanting at the end is not the same as watching along the way. Urgent words of devotion cannot stand in for a life that kept its lamp filled. The verse calls us from intention to action while the door still stands open — and for now, it does.
