What Does Matthew 26:6 Mean?
Bethany lay on the eastern slope of the Mount of Olives, about two miles from Jerusalem; Jesus lodged there during His final week. His host is remembered as Simon the leper -- a man once marked by the disease, now hosting a supper, surely no longer infectious and quite possibly healed by the Guest at his table.
While rulers plot in palaces, Jesus reclines in the home of a man whose name still carries the memory of uncleanness. He has always been found at such tables. The house of the outcast becomes the setting for one of the most beautiful acts of devotion in the Gospels.
