When Pilate asks what to do with Jesus, the crowd cries out for crucifixion.

What Does Matthew 27:22 Mean?

Pilate now faces the harder question: what to do with Jesus. The crowd's answer is swift and terrible, calling for Him to be crucified, the cruelest of Roman executions.

The question Pilate asks rings down the ages: what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ? It is the one question no one can finally avoid. The crowd answers with rejection, choosing the cross for the Son of God. Each reader is left to weigh how they will answer, for the One the crowd condemns is the very Savior who came to seek and to save.

In the Original Language

stauroo (σταυρόω), 'crucify' -- to execute by fixing to a cross.
