What Does Matthew 3:7 Mean?
Among the crowds come the Pharisees and Sadducees, the two leading religious parties, who held great authority and prestige. John does not flatter them. He calls them a brood of vipers and asks pointedly who warned them to flee the wrath to come, exposing that they may be seeking the sign without the substance.
