What Does Matthew 8:33 Mean?
The men tending the swine, witnesses to the sudden loss of the herd and the deliverance of the two men, flee in alarm to the nearby city. There they tell everything, including what had become of those who had been possessed.
Their report carries the news of an astonishing event throughout the town. They had seen the power of Jesus displayed both in the destruction of the herd and, more importantly, in the freeing of the tormented men. The whole city is about to be confronted with what Jesus has done. So word of His works spreads, and the people must decide how they will respond to the One whose authority has so plainly entered their region.
