What Does Micah 1:16 Mean?
The chapter closes with a call to mourn. Shave the head bald, as wide as the molted head of an eagle, the ancient sign of deepest grief, for the beloved children are gone into exile. The future itself is being led away.
Children are a people's tomorrow, and their loss is the bitterest grief of all. Yet even this sorrow is spoken by a God who does not abandon His people in exile. The same prophet who calls for mourning will soon speak of a remnant gathered home, for judgment in Scripture is never God's final word.
