This declaration comes among Christ's closing words in Revelation, echoing the divine title from the book's opening and framing the whole prophecy.
What Does Revelation 22:13 Mean?
Revelation 22:13 is Christ's majestic self-declaration that He is the beginning and end of all things, the first and the last. Three parallel phrases pile up to make a single overwhelming point: "Alpha and Omega," "the beginning and the end," "the first and the last." Each pairs the very first with the very last to declare that He encompasses everything in between.
Strikingly, this same title was used of the Lord God at the book's opening, and here it stands on the lips of Christ near its close, framing the entire prophecy. He stands at the origin of all things and at their final goal; nothing precedes Him and nothing outlasts Him. To readers who have walked through visions of upheaval and waited long for resolution, this declaration is an anchor: the One who began history will also bring it to its appointed end, and He has been sovereign over every moment along the way. There is no part of the story outside His reach. For the believer, this means their own life, with its beginning and end, is held securely by the One who is first and last. The verse fills the heart with confidence that the Lord who spans all of time is faithfully guiding all things to their completion in Him.
In the Original Language
"Beginning" is "arche" (ἀρχή), origin or first cause. "End" is "telos" (τέλος), the goal or completion toward which all things move.
