What Does Romans 4:25 Mean?
Paul ends the chapter with a compact summary of the gospel itself. Jesus our Lord was delivered up, handed over to death, because of our offenses; He bore the consequence of our sin. And He was raised again for our justification, His resurrection sealing and securing the righteousness that faith receives.
Here the cross and the empty tomb stand together as the ground of everything Paul has said. The faith that is credited as righteousness rests on this: Christ died for our sins and rose for our acceptance. The whole argument about Abraham finds its goal in Him. What was promised long ago is now accomplished, and the believer who trusts this risen Lord is justified, set right with God, and welcomed into the family of faith.
