What Does Romans 8:10 Mean?
Paul considers what is true when Christ dwells in a person. The body is still subject to death, the lingering effect of sin in a fallen world; yet the spirit is alive, made so through the righteousness that comes by Christ. Two realities hold together in the believer.
Even now, while we await the redemption of our bodies, the inner life is quickened. Christ in us is life, stronger than the death that still touches our mortal frame. The presence of righteousness, freely given, secures a life that death cannot finally claim. This is the down payment of a fuller life to come, when the body itself will share in the Spirit's life.
