God chose to reveal the glorious riches of this mystery among the nations: Christ in you, the hope of glory.

What Does Colossians 1:27 Mean?

Paul now names the mystery's content. God willed to make known its riches of glory among the Gentiles -- a stunning grace, that the nations once outside should receive this revelation freely.

The heart of the mystery is four words: Christ in you, the hope of glory. The long-hidden secret turns out to be the indwelling Christ himself, present within his people, and that presence is the guarantee of the glory to come. This is not a doctrine to admire from afar but a living reality inside the believer. For the Colossians, lured toward external rules and hidden knowledge, the answer is that the greatest treasure already dwells within them. Christ himself is their hope, and his presence assures them of glory. There is nothing higher to attain than the One who already lives in them.
