The LORD will whistle to call His redeemed people together and gather them, and they will multiply as they did before.

What Does Zechariah 10:8 Mean?

God pictures Himself as a shepherd who whistles to summon his flock from far away. The scattered people hear the familiar signal of their Master and come at His call. The reason He gathers them is given simply: He has redeemed them, bought them back as His own.

With gathering comes growth. The people who had been diminished by judgment will multiply again as in former days. Redemption is never the end of the story but the beginning of fruitfulness. The God who calls His own by name also makes them flourish, turning a remnant into a multitude and a ruin into a thriving people.

In the Original Language

sharaq (שָׁרַק), 'hiss' -- to whistle, the shepherd's signal that calls the flock to gather.
