What Does Zechariah 6:12 Mean?
As the crown rests on Joshua's head, the Lord directs the prophet to look past the moment to a promised figure: 'Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH.' This one will grow up out of his place and build the temple of the Lord, raising a house for God's presence among His people.
The title the Branch had already been given to the promised heir of David's line, a shoot springing from a seemingly cut-down tree. He grows quietly, from humble beginnings, yet His work is to build God's dwelling. Christians have long heard in these words a promise fulfilled in Jesus, who builds a living temple of the redeemed and dwells among them. The crowning of a priest becomes a window into His coming.
