What Does Zechariah 6:8 Mean?
The vision reaches its resolution as the Lord cries out to the prophet. The messengers sent to the north country, the direction of Babylon and Israel's captivity, have quieted His spirit there, accomplishing what He purposed.
To say His spirit is quieted is to say that justice has been satisfied and His holy concern set at rest. The land that had swallowed His people is now answered. Here is the promise that God's righteous purposes do reach completion; the wrongs that grieve Him are not left forever unaddressed, and the heart of the believer can rest where the heart of God has found rest.
In the Original Language
nuach (נוּחַ), 'quieted' -- to settle into rest, the same root behind the Sabbath rest of God.
