Nearly two years after his night visions, Zechariah receives a fresh word from the LORD, precisely dated to the reign of Darius.

What Does Zechariah 7:1 Mean?

The prophet anchors this message in real history: the fourth year of Darius, the ninth month called Chisleu, roughly midwinter. The temple was partly rebuilt but not yet finished, and the returned exiles were rethinking the religious habits they had carried through their long captivity.

God speaks into a particular day, not into vague abstraction. That He marks the date reminds us that His word meets us in the ordinary calendar of our lives, in seasons of half-finished work and unsettled hearts. The same Lord who spoke to Zechariah still speaks to those who will listen.
