What Does 1 Peter 3:1 Mean?
Peter turns to wives, including those married to husbands who do not share their faith. The likewise links them to the pattern of Christ he has just described, willing humility for the sake of others.
His hope is quietly hopeful: a husband who resists every spoken argument might still be won by what he sees. A life of quiet faithfulness can reach where words cannot. Peter does not ask the wife to preach but to live in such a way that her conduct becomes its own sermon. Love patiently lived out has a power to soften that mere persuasion lacks.
