What Does 1 Timothy 1:8 Mean?
Lest anyone think he is attacking the law itself, Paul affirms its goodness. The problem was never the law but its misuse by those who twisted it.
The law is good when used as intended. Like any good gift, it can be turned to wrong ends. Paul will now explain what the lawful use of the law actually is, so that its goodness is not lost in confusion.
In the Original Language
nomos (νόμος), 'law' -- here the law God gave through Moses.
