Joel 2:25

Joel 2:25 is God's promise to restore the years that the locusts had eaten, undoing the devastation of what He calls His own great army. The four insect names -- locust, cankerworm, caterpiller, palmerworm -- likely describe stages or kinds of the destroying swarm that had stripped the land bare. The loss was not just a single harvest but "years," a long stretch of ruin and want. Into that hopeless picture God speaks one of Scripture's most beloved promises of recovery.

The wonder of the verse is the word "restore." God does not merely promise to stop the plague or to grant a single good season. He pledges to give back the years that were lost, making up for the cumulative damage. What seemed permanently gone is treated as recoverable in His hands. The phrase "my great army which I sent among you" is sobering -- the calamity had a purpose under God's hand, meant to turn His people back to Him.
