Boaz arrives from Bethlehem and exchanges blessings in the Lord's name with his workers.

What Does Ruth 2:4 Mean?

At just the right moment, behold, Boaz himself arrives from Bethlehem to check on his harvest. His first words reveal his heart: The LORD be with you, he greets his workers, and they answer in kind, The LORD bless thee. This is not empty courtesy but a household where the name of God is woven into ordinary speech, where master and laborers bless one another freely.

The timing is exquisite, Boaz arrives precisely as Ruth is gleaning, but so is the spirit of the place. A field where the Lord's blessing passes warmly between owner and workers is a field shaped by reverence and kindness. Such is the soil in which God plants His larger purposes. The warmth Boaz shows his servants foreshadows the kindness he will show a stranger. A life that honors God in small greetings is being prepared for a far greater act of grace, and Ruth has been led to exactly such a man.
