The overseer reports Ruth's polite request to glean and her steady labor since morning.

What Does Ruth 2:7 Mean?

The overseer continues his report, and through his words we glimpse Ruth's character. She had asked humbly, I pray you, let me glean, requesting only what the law permitted, and not presuming on more. And she has worked steadily, from the morning until now, pausing only briefly to rest. Her courtesy and her diligence are both on display.

Ruth's industry speaks for itself. She does not idle or beg; she labors faithfully through the long hours, asking permission rather than demanding right. Such humble perseverance, doing honest work without complaint, quietly commends her to Boaz before he has spoken a single word to her. God often opens doors through faithfulness in small, unseen labors. Ruth did not know she was being observed, yet her steady character in the ordinary work of the day became the very thing that drew favor. Integrity in hidden hours prepares the way for open blessing.
