What Does Ezra 7:27 Mean?
The royal letter ends, and now Ezra's own voice rises in worship. He blesses the LORD, the God of the fathers, for putting it into the king's heart to adorn and honor the house of God in Jerusalem. He gives the credit not to the king but to God.
Ezra sees past the human hand to the divine one behind it. He knows that the favor of Artaxerxes was no accident but the working of the LORD, who turns the hearts of kings. So his first response is praise. When good comes to us through people in power, faith looks higher still and thanks the God who moved them.
