What Does Hosea 1:11 Mean?
The chapter closes with a vision of reunion. The divided peoples of Judah and Israel will be gathered together under one head and will rise up out of the land of their scattering. The name Jezreel, once a byword for bloodshed, is reclaimed as the herald of a great and joyful day.
Here the seed-meaning of Jezreel, God sows, blossoms fully: what was scattered will be sown again and gathered in. Christians read in this gathering under one head a foretaste of the unity God brings about in His Anointed, who draws a scattered people into one. The God who plants in tears is the God who reaps in joy, and His great day will surely come.
