What Does John 4:32 Mean?
In older English, meat means food of any kind, not flesh. As the woman misheard living water (v. 11), the disciples now mishear this meat — John's familiar pattern, where an everyday word carries a heavenly weight and the misunderstanding opens the door to teaching.
There is a nourishment invisible to onlookers — a sustenance no table can supply. Jesus has just been feeding on it: the Father's will unfolding at a Samaritan well, a soul coming alive mid-conversation.
