What Does John 5:20 Mean?
Jesus opens the inner life of God to view: the Father loves the Son and holds nothing back from him, showing him all things that he himself does. The healing at Bethesda flowed from that intimacy. And greater works are coming, named in the next verses: raising the dead and judging the world.
At the heart of all things is the love between the Father and the Son, a love older than the world (17:24). Revelation flows from that love: the Father shows the Son, and the Son makes the Father known (1:18). Whoever fears that God is a withholder may look here. At the source of everything is a Father who shows all things.
