Only Jesus, who is of God, has seen the Father and can reveal him to us.

Context

Jesus clarifies that while all are taught by the Father, only he has direct knowledge of the Father, having come from him.

What Does John 6:46 Mean?

This verse closes the discussion of teaching with a crucial assertion: no one has seen the Father except one, and he is here. The Father remains invisible and transcendent, beyond human sight. All the prophets spoke of God; none of them saw God face to face (Exodus 33:20 makes this explicit). But Jesus, who is 'of God,' who shares the Father's nature and origin, has seen him. Not metaphorically or in vision, but in direct knowledge of the Father's presence.

What this means for the listeners is staggering: if you want to know the Father, you are dependent on Jesus' testimony. You cannot go around him to God. You cannot compile your own image of the Father from the prophets and your own experience. Jesus alone bridges the gap between the invisible Father and the human longing to know him. To see Jesus is as close as you can come to seeing the Father (John 14:9).

Application

If Jesus is the only access to the Father, then your knowledge of God depends on your knowledge of Jesus. How well do you know Jesus? What would it mean to know him better?
