What Does Revelation 1:6 Mean?
This verse completes the outburst of praise begun in the previous one. Having been loved and cleansed, the redeemed are now given a dignity: Christ has made them kings and priests to God His Father. The doxology then rises to its height, giving glory and dominion to Christ for ever and ever, sealed with Amen.
To be made priests is to be granted access to God and a calling to serve Him; to be made kings is to share in His reign. What was once spoken over a covenant people now belongs to all whom Christ has washed. This is not a reward earned but a gift bestowed, and the only fitting response is worship. The chapter that will soon show Christ in blazing glory first shows His people lifted up to honor by His love.
