Moroni 2
People in this chapter
On the first day the risen Savior ministered among the Nephites, He did something the crowd could not hear. He went to the twelve disciples He had chosen, touched them one by one, and spoke to each of them (3 Nephi 18:36-37). Mormon's account says only that he gave them power to give the Holy Ghost. Moroni now gives us the words.

Moroni 2:1-2In My Name Shall Ye Give It
1The words of Christ, which he spake unto his disciples, the twelve whom he had chosen, as he laid his hands upon them— 2And he called them by name, saying: Ye shall call on the Father in my name, in mighty prayer; and after ye have done this ye shall have power that to him upon whom ye shall lay your hands, ye shall give the Holy Ghost; and in my name shall ye give it, for thus do mine apostles.
Jesus laid His hands on each of the twelve disciples and called each one by name. Then He gave them power to give the Holy Ghost.
The pattern has three parts: pray to the Father in Christ's name, lay on hands, and give the Holy Ghost in Christ's name.
Moroni 2:3On as Many as They Laid Their Hands
3Now Christ spake these words unto them at the time of his first appearing; and the multitude heard it not, but the disciples heard it; and on as many as they laid their hands, fell the Holy Ghost.
Jesus said these words on the first day He appeared. The crowd did not hear them, but the disciples did.
When the disciples laid their hands on people, the Holy Ghost came upon them. The same gift is given in the Church today after baptism.
